History

The beginnings - Jack sets up the business
Hughes and Gibson Smash Repairs was established in its current location in 1972 by Lance (Jack) Hughes. Set up in the rapidly growing St Marys area, the business thrived based on the old fashioned values of service and friendship. Many of Jack's customers not only became regulars, but became friends of the business, recommending it on to their work collegues or family. The shops location in such an easily accessible area added to its success, customers could drop their car off, catch a train to work, and pick up their car at the end of the day.

Current

The current owner Glenn Alderson was employed by Jack as an apprentice in 1983. As a long time employee Glenn was able to obtain the knowledge and customer service skills that had been passed down from Jack from his father Ron - who was also a local smash repairer. After leaving Hughes and Gibson in 1996 to broaden his experience in the industry Glenn was employed by an international automotive refinish company (PPG). During his time at PPG Glenn became highly proficient in all forms of custom spray painting. After leaving PPG at State Training Manager level Glenn went on to form a successful automotive refinish company for five years.

Upon Jacks retirement in mid 2006, Glenn returned to take over the reins and further the business. With new focus and modernised equipment and techniques, Hughes & Gibson can confidently promise that the next 30 years will be as exciting and enjoyable as the past 30.
